Today I will mostly be sacrificing sheep. By some strange - TopicsExpress

Today I will mostly be sacrificing sheep. By some strange coincidence I find myself the guest of another Moroccan family. While going down a hill yesterday the bike was making more noise than usual so I thought. I looked at the instrument panel and the neutral light was on. I figured I was in 2nd gear or it had popped out of gear and anyway I pushed down to select a gear and it went straight to 1st causing the engine speed to rise drastically, the back wheel locked up and I ground to a halt. The bike was fooked up again. Lots of clunking and banging. Got a lift in a van into town where a mechanic told me that the timing chain had probably skipped a few teeth and now the timing was out. However it was now Eit. The biggest Muslim festival was happening the next day and the mechanic was about to close shop. I was stuck for at least 3 days Enter Ali a morrocon motorcyclist. He invited le to stay with them and to pass this very important few days with his family. The whole Muslim world are today making a sacrifice of a sheep to God. The tradition comes from the old testament story when God asked Abraham to sacrifice Ishmael to prove his faith. At the last minute God intervened and told him he had proven himself and instead to sacrifice a sheep. So this morning I have taken part in the sacrificing of two sheep on a roof top in Ksar el Kebir. The sheep will be prepared and cooked as part of the festivities over the next few days.
