Today, January 23rd, 2015 will go down as one of the hands-down best days of my life for many reasons… 1) I have been a huge sports fan since I can remember. I have attended numerous MLB, NBA, NHL, WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY, and NFL games…even a FIFA WORLD CUP qualifier…but yet tennis, a staple in my family’s household, had eluded me until now. And not only did I go to a tennis match, I had the chance to observe the AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2015, one of only 4 Grand Slam events held per year. 2) When you buy your tickets online, you just know what round and what court, nothing else. You typically get to view one women’s singles match followed by a men’s singles match. We purchased really good seats for the 3rd round and when the event came today, we actually got 2 women’s matches and one men’s match…all on one ticket…I know, right? It gets better… 3) Our seats were way better than I expected, about 3 house lengths from Centre court in Rod Laver Arena. The first match was…well it doesn’t matter…but the second match was our top Canadian woman, Eugenie Bouchard and the final men’s match…I almost puked…was arguably the greatest player of all time at the tail end of his career, Roger Federer…IT WAS AWESOME!! He was upset in a marathon match but… IT WAS AWESOME!! 4) The day couldn’t have gone better, a long, sweltering day in the sun, watching Roger Federer play in a Grand Slam event from close quarters, all the while, sitting uninterrupted with my best friend and older brother who I miss so much every day that wake from my sleep. 5) Nuff said… Michael MacKay, this posts for you...
