Today, January 27, marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. I have had the privilege of working with the Auschwitz Memorial the last few years and with every testimony I have transcribed they all had something in common… To never forget. Not necessarily their individual stories, but collectively. To share. To love. To learn. To forgive. This year the museum focuses on the voices of Auschwitz and the future of the memorial. Although the never-again mentality is still taught in schools, we live in a world where violence and injustice occurs on a daily basis in places like Darfur, Burma, and Syria (to name a few). To honor them and others who have suffered the same fate (or still do), I ask that you not only remember, but never stop speaking up for the voiceless. Empower people to share their individual stories of survival, overcoming loss, and enable them, as well as their community, to make a change for a better future. “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” ― Elie Wiesel
