Today, Juneteenth, is a time that I am usually celebrating freedom with friends in Texas. Despite a history of slavery, segregation, and division, our communities are increasingly realizing that diversity is our strength. Last Saturday, I helped to dedicate a new Genealogy Center at the Carver Museum and Cultural Center to facilitate searches by individual families to learn more about their heritage and identify forebears, who overcame so much to build our communities and provide better lives for their descendants.
