Today Louisville lost one of its most engaged citizens and devoted public servants, Metro Council President Jim King. Councilman King was a Louisville Orchestra board member and a valued friend of the whole institution. Our thoughts are with his wonderful family, many of whom we met each winter when Jim would proudly bring several generations of the King family on stage for our annual holiday concert that he and his bank enthusiastically sponsored. During the most volatile time in the LO’s history, Jim was a steady hand and played a major part in resolving the dispute. For that alone we would be forever grateful but ultimately we’re most grateful for his tireless support no matter which way the winds were blowing. Jim was admired across party-lines as well as in both the business and arts communities. Through his various and varied commitments Jim touched the lives of many in this city. His passing leaves a great void and Jim will be greatly missed by the diverse community that he served. -The Musicians of the Louisville Orchestra
