Today, March 27th is AFE Awareness Day. The first time I heard the words Amniotic Fluid Embolism or AFE, I had no idea what they meant, nor did I realize the lasting impact they would have. Its been nearly six years since hearing those words, and not a day has gone by I havent thought about AFE and how it changed my life. Beginning the AFE (Amniotic Fluid Embolism) Foundationhas been one of the most challenging and emotional endeavors I could have ever imagined. These challenges pale in comparison to the devastation of those who have lost their loved one, are caring for a loved one who remains in a persistent vegetative state, or survived and remain physically, emotionally, or spiritually broken. Despite the obvious heaviness of such a cause, I am buoyed by the hope of finding answers and someday giving so many families the answers they deserve.
