Today, October 4th, within the realm of Lukumi we celebrate Orunmilas feast day. Orula within both the Lukumi and traditional Yoruba faiths is the Òrìshá of divination and the supreme Oracle. Orula is the most important Òrìshá second only to Olodumare. Orula witnessed Olodumare’s organization of the universe and creations of the world and its inhabitants. Orula stood with Obatala as he created man. Because of this Orula knows the destiny of all men, Eleri Ipin (the seer of destiny). It is said that for those who fail to adhere to the advice of Orula are left do deal with Echu. Echu is the enforcer of Ifa/Orula. Orula represents knowledge, wisdom and intelligence. His priests are known as Babalawo (Father of Secrets). They study for years to become proficient at divination. Olodumare sent Orula to save the world from itself, to bring order and insight. Orula’s colors are green and yellow, number is 2 or 16 and feast day is October 4th. To my fellow Awos, Oluwos, Babalawos, Iboru Iboya Ibochiche! To my ahijadas and all women whom have received and embraced Orula in their lives (Apetebis); Apetebi Iboru, Apetebi Iboya Apetebi Ibochiche. If you have Orula in your life wether you be a man or women, contact your godfather and wish him well on this day. If your godfathers house is open on this day for you to be able to salute Ifa, please do so. Most houses of Ifa will expect visitors on this day. If you are going to stop by your godfathers house please bring and addimu (food offering) to your godfathers Orula. Typical addimus: Two Ñames and two white candles or two coconuts and two candles. Some houses expect a derecho (monetary offering) This is not necessary but accepted. If your godfather is not available then contact your second godfather, if he is not available contact the Babalawo closets to you.
