Today, President Obama announced his intentions to pass student privacy legislation, which could help ensure that children’s educational data is off limits to marketers. It’s an incredibly important step, as well as a testament to the activism of parents and advocates who don’t want to see student data exploited and used for targeted marketing. As with all legislation, though, the devil will be in the details and questions remain about how strong the President’s proposal will actually be. But you can be sure that CCFC will work to ensure that any proposed legislation offers real privacy protections for students. Stay tuned.
