Today Rev. Brundage preached on deliverance from demons. The scripture is as follows... Luke 8:26-39 NKJV Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!” For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness. Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him. And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss. Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon-possessed was healed. Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned. Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. We all struggle in our day to day Christian walk and if we are not careful, we can give the devil an opportunity to let a demon come into us. In order to prevent this from happening, we need to be able to recognize the devil when he creeps up on us. The devil is a master of disguise. He can come in the form of anything that will take control of us. He came in the form of a snake in the Garden of Eden where Eve was tempted to sin. When we allow the devil to come in and take control, he will constantly torment us to the point where only the Holy Spirit can bring it out. Demons are very real. They are not mythical creatures that dont exist. They are just as real as angels and theyre purpose is to cause chaos and to destroy. They come in the forms of many things like palm reading, crystal balls, tarot cards, ouigi boards, etc. We should not be afraid of the devil as long as christ id with us, but we can not make way for them to enter us. In the story, Jesus simply called the demons out of the man. The man was being tormented by many demons. They caused him to go live in a cemetery, cause harm to himself, and to be seen as an outcast in society. His name was Legion because there were many demons in him. But by the power of the Christ our Lord, the demons were drawn out of the man. In Matthew 8:32, All Jesus had to say was Go and the demons fled. There is power in the name of Jesus to break chains and to draw out any demon that is tormenting us. Christ was able to command the demons to come out of the man because he had the authority given by God. The same power can give us strength. Some of us need the strength to say, No to the devil. We can not be scared to declare what is right. Our constant prayer should be for strength. We all need strength to fight the battle against the devil. When the demon possessed man finally delivered from the demons, he was in his right mind. Before the people had chained him and had him bound. But now, there was nothing binding him anymore. Before he was an outcast, but now he would be welcomed home again. When the Lord does something, he does it in a way that will make you want to tell everybody. When the Lord gives you strength, you can tell any demon that Jesus is your rock and as long as you have God on your side, the devil doesnt stand a chance.
