Today Sheriff Robert Maciol, during his agency awards ceremony, recognized Oneida County Deputy Sheriff Charles J. Kammerlohr who was killed in the line of duty July, 8 1921 Previously the Sheriff’s Office had no know record of this death and today the Sheriff awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously in recognition of Kammerlorh’s sacrifice. “For his actions in the line of duty, July 8, 1921, attempting to apprehend bootleggers in the City of Utica, resulting in his death by gunfire. Shall his sacrifice never be forgotten and his service to the citizens of Oneida County be a permanent record in history as to the level of commitment and dedication he provided.”
