Today The ED Project would like to introduce a lovely lady of Hip Hop... Pretty Gurl. Check her out... De’Lana Domnique Minnis, also known as “Pretty Gurl” from the Street Doctorz, under Boats & Planes Media Group was born November 28, 1986 to Rosalind and Cornelius Minnis, Sr. with only one sibling, Cornelius Minnis, Jr. She grew up in the mid-west region of the United States, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended a private elementary school for gifted and talented students and sang in the church choir with her grandmother at age 7. While attending school, her extracurricular activities became speaking in front of large groups, writing, and singing. Her and her family packed up and moved to California, this is when a change took place in her life that not only opened her eyes, but gave her a better look at the world around her for larger opportunities. De’Lana attended Norwalk high school from 2001 until 2005. She played on the girl’s varsity basketball team all four years, and also became a captain for the girls track team. This really motivated De’Lana to be something great and a leader, because her capabilities were endless. Her favorite Genres of music is R&B, Hip Hop, and Acoustic. Inspired by many different artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and India Arie she too wanted to sing and bring out the other part of her personality; the creativity! By the end of her senior year, she started singing again and doing music on a karaoke machine with her younger brother and cousin, making songs and having fun. During this time, she didn’t take music as serious, but her love for writing and instruments kept her interested, and she knew it was only a matter of time. Minnis attended The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and was recruited to the track team. She was ecstatic; this was her opportunity to shine and better her education. With her major being Business Management, the minor degree she was most interested in was Creative Writing, because that’s all she could ever do in her free time for years; write. From 2006-2007, she experienced her first studio sessions in Orange County, CA, making songs with her family and friends, and learning the programs that came with producing. This is when she really got into music and wanted to perform. 2008 was her first appearance on stage in Los Angeles, CA in front of a crowd, dancing backup for the Street Doctorz. This was the year when her peers gave her the name “Pretty Gurl”. 2009 and 2010 sparked a new beginning of her life. With the remembrance of her grandmother pushing her to sing, her love and passion for music and writing sprung out, and she became one of the most distinctive writers/artists in her age group throughout southern California! By the beginning of 2011, she performed in different cities with the Street Doctorz becoming a part of their group and was constantly complimented her for her dominate stage presence, her style of dressing, and delivery lyrically. She featured on a few mix tapes with them as well singing and rapping on hooks, later exposing her own mix tape called “Head Change” by spring of 2011. The motivation came from her passion for music and writing, mixed with her peers and how they strive for success whether in business or in music. As she carries on her career in business for Philadelphia Gear Timken Brand, the music that she shares with the world is now being exposed through her group now called Boats & Planes Media Group. The opportunity to elaborate on her unique style of music will not only catch the listeners’ attention, but will create positive production for the group.
