Today as I was travelling by a public bus, there was a differently abled person sitting next to me in a seat reserved for ladies. A lady in fancy attire who seemed to be physically healthy entered into the bus in the next stop. As all seats were fulfilled, she turned towards the guy next to me and asked “Vacate the seat!” in a very rude tone. He did not say a word. Instead I replied “Madam can’t you see he is a differently abled person. He is needier than u” to which she replied boldly “there are seats reserved for them too. Why is it necessary for him to occupy our seat? He is handicapped, not mentally retarded right?” I glanced the face of that guy. I could clearly see the awkwardness in his face. As he was vacating the seat, I just stopped him, vacated my seat instead and said” Madam, please change ur tone. Learn to say differently abled. It is better to be differently abled than to be a well-educated mental patient like you. Have seat please” As I vacated the seat she sat and was murmuring at me. I just did not give a damn and plugged my earphones in. As the New Year is knocking at our door, let’s learn to love, respect, protect and uplift differently able people too. They may be physically weak but mentally they are not less than us. Give respect, get respect. Let’s give hand to needy one. Let’s learn to forgive. Let’s spread happiness and make this world peaceful. Happy New Year 2015!
