Today ended nearly 2 and a 1/2 years of working at Childrens Home Society. I have loved, stressed, and worried nearly every minute of it. Grown and changed a lot. With the help of my friends (and coworkers) Megan and Nikki I came up with a long list of You might work at CHS if... instead of a sappy Im going to miss this place status... so here goes You might work at CHS IF:.. 1. You refer to your possessions as your personals 2. You buy an outfit and look for the sharpie as soon as you get home so you can put your initials on it - or stake out any other of your belongings 3. while brushing your teeth you find the need to yell START or RINSE 4. If you havent had someone cry during the day you dont feel like youve done your job well 5. The unmarked bin of clothing usually has more clean clothes than your own dresser drawer at home. 6. You discover your jeans fit only after working 7 days straight and all of your yoga pants and gym shorts are dirty 7. A break consists of sneaking a peak at facebook while your going to the bathroom - dont lie weve all done it 8. While in public you feel the need to tell other to stay out of your space and respect your arms length distance 9. In addition you ask your family if theyre okay with you giving them a hug before you actually do it. 10. Attention is a foreign concept to the rest of the world - but really I just want someone to spend time with me :) 11. Kids tell you that they wont do something stupid so that you dont have to do the paperwork 12. Matching socks dont exist - if you can manage to find socks at all youre doing good! 13. Your watch isnt waterproof because you might go swimming, its on the off chance that you get spit on. 14. Your outfit is decided based on its ability to repel said spit - or you bring an extra outfit along if you have been having a particularly rough week... Most importantly, our kids learn to give love, receive love, and ask for love from the right people. I have learned much the same thing. So many of those kids have made such an impact on my life, hopefully I did the same :)
