Today, former four term Fayetteville City Councilman Nat Robertson - TopicsExpress

Today, former four term Fayetteville City Councilman Nat Robertson formally announced that he will file for Mayor on July 5th at noon. Robertson finished a close second behind current Mayor Tony Chavonne in 2011, while Chavonne outspent Robertson by a 10-to-1 margin, according to public campaign finance records. Robertson says his priorities will include working with local businesses to promote and expand economic development. “Fayetteville has become a less friendly place to do business and live over the past decade. Business growth will promote a healthier and safer environment for ALL of our residents.” Robertson wants to encourage builders and developers to come back to Fayetteville by offering a faster and fairer appeals process for the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and a more user friendly inspections process. “We are losing millions of dollars in tax revenue every year when our own developers are going outside of our city limits to build.” Robertson continues, “This is money that could be used to fund and support more police officers, more parks, better roads and ultimately share the burden of operating the city.” “We have to address the cause as well as the effect of our crime problem. A stronger economic base will put our residents back to work and take them off the streets. Fixing a problem that has been greatly ignored in the past will take some new out of the box thinking. We have to face this issue head on and fight back, I will do everything in my power to strengthen our Police Department and be sure they have the tools needed to win this battle. I feel strongly that the new City Council and Chief Medlock will want to address this as a top priority also”, Robertson said. Robertson’s platform is visible on Facebook (https://facebook/pages/Nat-Robertson-for-Mayor/174767425924158) as well as a web page that has been set up for his campaign (natrobertson). On line, Robertson also lists homelessness, public transportation, transparency in government, the elimination of duplicate services and better communication between the city, PWC and the County as his priorities. Robertson also said that he would like to see efforts on beautifying the city’s gateways and burying power lines while our main streets are under repair and being resurfaced. “I remain committed to make this campaign about the issues and not personalities or politics. We are running a positive campaign about where we want to see our city in ten or twenty years. ALL Fayetteville residents deserve to see value for the taxes they pay, and together we can make our city a better place to live and raise families. We will focus on policy and not politics; on our residents, not the power brokers and on doing the right things for the right reasons!” Nat Robertson, grew up in Fayetteville, graduated from E.E. Smith and Elon University with a BA in Public Administration. He was a partner with his father in Robertson Jewelers and owned the General Nutrition Center stores on Raeford Road and Bragg Blvd. Robertson now works as a physician representative for a clinical laboratory. He was one of the youngest council members ever elected to the Fayetteville City Council at the age of 26. WWW.NATROBERTSON.COM
