Today has been a challenging day! Before I go into an explanation, let me say Tacey is fine. She is resting in her hospital bed while we wait for her chemo to be prepared and the blood bank to find her some blood. The challenges started when we had to be at the radiation center by 5:15 this morning!! When we finished, I allowed Tacey to go back to bed to sleep. Mistake!! She was so sleep deprived and tired I had a horrible time getting her awake to get her into the car to get her to the clinic for her appointment. At this point, we are on the verge of being late. Being late stresses me out!! We pull up to the clinic building to find the parking garage full, the valet over-flowing and refusing any more cars. We pulled over to the hospital building to find the same thing Well, I kind of weaseled my way into the valet line because we were pushing the limit on tardiness! As we were rushing to get on the elevator, one of the bags fell. I kind of pushed Tacey toward the elevator as I tried to gather everything up. She didnt move fast enough or I didnt push hard enough. Also, no one attempted to help in any way. This resulted in her foot getting hit by the elevator door. Her foot is okay, just slightly bruised! First major Mom fail of the day. As we riding up the elevator, it was slightly obvious she was somewhat traumatized by the elevator door incident. To make matters worse, once again one of the bags fell as the elevator doors opened on our floor. I pushed Tacey out of the elevator just as one of our friends passed by. Imagine his surprise as I yelled his name for him to stop and help Tacey!! Thanks, God, for putting him where I needed him at that moment!! We finally reached the clinic only five minutes late!! Whew!! Of course, they immediately told me there were no beds available on the 9th floor!!! Then, they couldnt access her port to start her IV. They finally got it started, but after consulting with the team, it was decided this port needs to be removed and a new one put in. That will involve surgery before her next chemo. Dont worry, Tacey had already worked it all out in her head while we were trying to get the current one to work!! She explained the whole process to the team and they agreed! (I hope they arent looking for a medical director any time soon! Tacey will probably apply for the position!!!) After her blood counts, they determined she needed blood. LOL Since she normally doesnt need blood on the day she starts chemo, none had been ordered ahead of time. That means it is now 9:00 pm and we are still waiting for blood! Since they didnt have a room available on the 9th floor, they decided to move her to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. That meant isolation and no visitors, but we were both so tired we agreed to that! Just as we had gotten settled and thought they were about to start her chemo, they decided she really needed to be on the 9th floor due to her chemo, radiation and other complications. Since a room had become available, they decided to move us! We are now settled on the 9th floor with nurses and assistants we know and know us!! That makes us feel so much better in so many ways!! All the orders are finally in the system correctly and the pharmacists are mixing her chemo! We will try to get some sleep before the ambulance crew comes to whisk us to radiation in the morning!! Boy, I am tired!! The best thing about today was when I frantically messaged some of my dearest friends and PRAYER warriors this morning and knew they were wrapping us in PRAYER!!! Things didnt suddenly go smoothly, but I was much calmer and able to deal so much better! Thanks, dear friends!! Thanks to all of you for your PRAYERS!!!
