Today has been a very busy day yet a good day. Today, the little girl puppy went to her new home. Prior to that we had taken some of our dogs for rabies boosters and microchips. Gabe, the previously starving great dane, has a current rabies, but no microchip while Molly, the other great dane, has a microchip but her rabies was due to be redone. Today, we had two great danes and three other dogs all loaded up at once for whichever they needed done. When we arrived at our first destination, both great danes bailed out, even though they did not both need to. Gabe, being as jumpy as he still is, kept trying to bolt and run, which is why he had to be microchipped today. Gabe had run wild for who knows how long when we caught him and brought him to the farm to recover. He had become feral or wild and has still not completely gotten over being wild so if he gets loose, he bolts and runs and you cannot catch him. Sometimes we are like Gabe. Sometimes, a person has been burned in life or has gone his or her own way for so long that when God has him or her under his care, he might get spooked and run easily. Yet, like we are with Gabe, God does not give up on that person. Like we are with Gabe, God will gently pursue you until he finds you, then he sits quietly calling until you quit running and return to him. Gabriel The Great Dane often reminds me of how I am with God. God has never hurt me, just as we have never hurt Gabe. Yet, I have trouble trusting God, just as Gabe has trouble trusting us. Gabriel runs from where he is the most safe, where he is fed, warm, dry and cared for, and heads to where he would quickly starve to death and be lonely and cold. I run from God in much that same way. Gabe forgets he has a home. I forget Jesus has prepared a home for me. Gabe tries to return to the very things that led to him being 70lbs underweight, scared, scarred and wild. I try to return to the very things that had me lost in the first place. God will not give up on me. God promises to feed me, to clothe me, to give me water to drink, and shelter to keep me warm and dry. He will do the same for you.
