Today has been an emotional experience! Im driving back to the field station from work and the car in front of me speeds up to intentionally hit a flock of some kind of ground bird (I have to look them up) killing 3 or 4 of them right in front of me! Then he just speeds off, while Im sitting there parked right in the middle of the road sobbing hysterically. The unharmed birds stay divided on either side of the ride screaming at their dying brethren, and Im still just sitting there in the middle of the road crying, wishing that I was strong enough to get out of the truck and end their suffering. I sit vigil till the last bird finally dies and then I drive around it heading back to the field station. As Im driving, still sobbing by the way, a bird suicide dives right into the front of my truck. This ushers in new tears and guilt. I get back to the field station and Im so restless and wound up that I cant sit still, so I walk down the road to the state park entrance and start hiking down the scenic trail. About a half an hour in, a white tailed deer jumps on to the trail in front of me and just stands there staring at me. It finally runs off, and I keep walking. A few minutes later, another deer jumps in front of me and does the same thing! After awile, I turn around and start heading back the way I came and a 3rd deer jumps out in front of me and repeats the same routine! Now I am crying happy tears. Gosh so emotional today! Is it a full moon tonight or something?!
