Today has been one of wonderment, totally overwhelmed by the greetings wishing me well as I stumble into the darkness otherwise referred to as the age of the Senior. Government pensions into which I have poured a seemingly worthless pittance, as pittance is an exaggerated value of what I may recover to live on for the rest of my days. If it were that I could live on the love expressed by so many, surely I would never starve; yet many silk purses derived from pigs ears are also available today. It was a day I spent surrounded by family and many members and fans of the musical community; thank you all. A visit from a brother in law returned from years in Thailand, a text from my brother unable to leave the west coast, my sisters, brothers in law, and lovely partner in life Sandy Jones, everything good. Yet still, it has been a rollercoaster ride of emotion, as the last of my mothers sisters has moved on to reform the Huard Sisters quintet on the other side of the pearly gates. Maybe watching the PBS tribute to Robin Williams has tempered my joy with a touch of sad reality, knowing that there are many who silently suffer the torture of depression. If there were a birthday gift that anyone could give to me, it would be to reach out to those around you who have become silent, or possibly overly joyous about nothing in particular. Look for changes in your friends and family in their attitudes and behavior, let everyone know they are not alone, and possibly save a life.
