Today history... In 1994, early morning thunderstorms in western Arkansas produced heavy rain which caused flash flooding in Van Buren and Fort Smith. As much as 4 to 5 feet of water accumulated in parking lots near the Fort Smith Airport. Additional severe thunderstorms developed in northeast Oklahoma late in the afternoon, producing 4 small and brief F0 tornadoes in Osage County. Straight line wind gusts to 90 mph in Nowata, OK and 80 mph near Bartlesville, OK were also reported, along with widespread damage throughout northeast Oklahoma.
