Today in 2003, Glen Johnson Boxing fought to a split draw in 12 rounds with Clinton Woods for the vacant IBF light heavyweight belt. Starting quickly, Johnson rushed Woods, who seemed caught off-guard, and took a round or two to warm up. After that, much of the action was close, with Johnson seeming to land the harder, slightly cleaner punches. When all was done, however, Johnson was denied in his third world title try. It was reported that Dennis Hobson Promotions, who handled the bout, paid for Johnsons training expenses, apparently admitting that Johnson should have edged the verdict.
