Today in Gulf War History – December 10th [C+125] Exercise SEA SOLDIER Ill conducts a silent, night amphibious assault by four Marine Expeditionary Brigade elements, followed by a heliborne assault. II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF), with 24,000 Marines, deploys from Camp Lejeune, NC. 4th Battalion, 64th Armor, completes M-1A1 new equipment transition. 1st (Tiger) Brigade, 2d Armored Division, begins screening new M-1A1 tanks at PEGASUS Range; tomorrow 3d Battalion, 67th Armor, will start gunnery qualification. The RED HORSE team at Al Kharj has erected five of seventeen K-Span munitions shelters and is making good progress on the others. SAC deploys the 9th RTS Mobile Imagery Processing and Exploitation (MIPE) system to Riyadh. Per CENTAF request, RC-135 operations return to 12/24 hour schedule. In addition to normal surveillance and air defense operations, an F-16 drops simulated leaflets from 4,500 ft and 15,000 ft to refine release parameters and measure leaflet dispersal patterns. There remain 19 committed and 11 reinforcing Iraqi divisions in the KTO.
