Today in History: On October 15, 1886 Andrew Bonar, on the anniversary of his beloved wife, Isabella’s death wrote in his journal, “I have learned that the Lord can fill the soul with Himself, when He takes away what seemed indispensable to our happiness on earth.” A Scottish clergyman and biographer, Bonar studied at Edinburgh; was a minister at Collace, Perthshire, 1838 – 1856 (both in the Church of Scotland and the Free Church); and of Finnieston Free Church, Glasgow from 1856 until his death in 1892. He was most identified with the nineteenth century evangelical and revival movements, particularly in his writings.
