Today in Western New York Weather History : 1991 A cold front, accompanied by severe thunderstorms, crossed the area during the early morning hours of the 31st. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in parts of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie and Monroe counties. In Silver Creek, Northern Chautauqua Co., the strong winds caused minor structural damage to a few homes there. 1993 Thunderstorms developed in a moist flow ahead of a cold front. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines across the Finger Lakes region. Hail up to an inch in diameter was reported with the storms. Some structural damage was reported from fallen trees and limbs. Specifically, wind damage was reported from Fairport, Walworth, Sodus, and Pulaski. In Erie county, A thunderstorm spawned a small tornado in Clarence during the early morning hours. Downburst winds with an embedded tornado downed numerous trees. Some of the trees were one to one-and-a-half feet in diameter and at least 100 feet high. Some structural damage to homes resulted from falling trees and limbs. 1995 A fast moving line of severe thunderstorms crossed the region causing widespread damage. There were countless reports of downed trees and power lines, many onto cars and houses. Several SKYWARN observers recorded wind gusts of 60-70 mph as the storms moved through. In Niagara county, lightning struck two Lockport residents as well as three construction workers working in Lockport. All five suffered only minor injuries and were treated and released from area hospitals. In Oswego County, a weak tornado touched down in Parish severely damaging a trailer, blowing a cap off a truck, damaging fencing and downing numerous trees. One person sustained slight injuries when she was knocked down during the storm. Wind damage was reported in Scriba, Hannibal, Lockport, Batavia, Irondequoit, Pike, and Covington. 2001 Thunderstorms crossed the eastern Lake Ontario region during the late afternoon and evening hours. The damaging thunderstorm winds downed power lines in Glenfield, Lewis county. Trees were downed in Granby, Oswego county, where a portion of a metal roof was blown off a trailer.
