Today in the Senate I argued on a Matter of Public Importance for ‘the need for the Senate to affirm its support for Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act in its current form.’The Prime Minister, bowing to pressure from the community and Labor, has stopped the Attorney-General’s attempt to remove protections against racial hate speech from our legislation. We will continue to oppose the Attorney’s defence of the right to be a bigot and fight for the protections against racist speech that are so important to Australia’s vibrant and diverse society.
