On August 3, 1981--can it really be 33 years ago?--approximately 12,000 Air Traffic Controllers PATCO) made a valiant stand putting literally everything on the line for better equipment, better training, strengthening safety in the National Airspace System. Reagan had promised to work with PATCO leadership to make the much-needed improvements. Instead, PATCO was vilified, negotiations reached an impasse, and the PATCO-FAA labor-management dispute was used to break unionism and all forms of representation that might protect workers throughout the country not to mention undermine safety issues across the board. I am proud to say I am One in 81. What I am proud of is that we had the courage to take such a stand in the face of overwhelming odds. To all my PATCO brothers and sisters: I am thinking if you today and wishing much love and many blessings.
