Today is Holocaust Remembrance day. I think of the two - TopicsExpress

Today is Holocaust Remembrance day. I think of the two grandmothers for whom I was named, Sarah Krupnik murdered in Vilna, Hannah Parecki murdered in Słonim. And then of everyone in the village, and then all in Poland and Lithuania, and Ukraine and Moldova and Hungary, Romania, Czechoslowakia, and Bulgaria, Greece and Germany, France, Italy, in the Netherlands, in Latvia and Estonia. Then when I am not quite so sick feeling again, I think of all who died in the Middle Passage, all who never saw their homes and families again, all who labored as slaves in a land not their own for three hundred years, and then of the genocide in Rwanda, in Somalia, in Congo, the slaughter on-going in Syria, and after my moment of silence, I beg for clarity to act so that some other mother somewhere in the world never has to hear her child scream while she is helpless to save it.
