Today is January 19 and the Gospel is Mark 2: 18-22, usccb.org/bible/readings/011915.cfm . Jesus fulfills the Old Covenant between God and the Chosen People and delivers a New Covenant meant for all mankind. The New, like the Old, is one of love and mercy. But one cant attach the old laws and the old customs to it that were meant to set aside the Chosen People and prepare them for the New Covenant. In accepting Gods gift of love today, we cant hold onto our old ways. We must discard them. Christ does not fit into our old lifestyle--the old cloak will tear and the wineskins will burst with His life in us. He demands that we live for Him first and that requires a new way of living.
