Today is Kannada Rajyotsava, the day the Mysore State was formed in 1956. The Mysore State was initially formed to let the people speaking kannada language live in a land ruled by its people. Later in 1973 the name was changed to Karnataka State. People commemorate the formation of the state on every November 1st, while hoisting the unofficial flag, playing orchestra etc etc. Today, my classmate who happens to be a non-Muslim, happened to go to a movie hall to watch a non-Kannada movie. In the middle of the movie, the screen went off, and the theatre was asked to be closed. Guess what! It is Kannada Rajyotsava. On these days, you can expect the mob entering public places and dictate things on their terms. Yes, this time they want the non-Kannada movies to be shut. These are the fruits of nationalism. It is a feeling of being superior than others. So, an Indian feels superior than a Pakistani. And a Pakistani feels superior than the Hindustani. A kannadiga feels superior than a tamilian. And a tamilian feels superior than the kannadiga. Can you imagine the same guys promoting Hindutva movement, not able to allow the non-Kannada movies play on the Kannada Rajyotsava! They are like the leaves of a tree fallen on ground, moving in all directions, as the wind carries them, without a stand for themselves. They simply dont have a stand!
