Today is National Teddy Bear Day, and although we do not have any plush friends here at Harry Warren headquarters, we have no shortage of Teddies! For whatever reason Teddies have always gravitated to the sweet sounds of Harrys compositions. From Teddy Reno, the Italian crooner best known for Innamorata, to Teddy Stauffer, the Swedish band leader known by the Germans as the King of Swing in the thirties, to Teddy Wilson, the quintessential swing pianist who worked with greats like Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, and Louis Armstrong. Like bears drawn to honey, the Teddies continued to string along. Renditions of Would You Like To Take A Walk? by American Jazz guitarist, Teddy Powell or I Take To You by Teddy Weatherford come to mind when recalling the vast pantheon of Teddies that have interpreted Harrys monumental works.
