Today is New Comic Book Day, and while its already trending Ill go - TopicsExpress

Today is New Comic Book Day, and while its already trending Ill go ahead and be part of the problem by saying that Star Wars #1 comes out today - complete with over sixty variant covers. Now Im a completist, the idea of something really cool and new for Star Wars, and something with variants, it tickles my geek collector fancy... but sixty+ covers?! Many of which are retailer exclusive? My first instinct is to simply boycott the thing, and thats what Id decided to do. It looks like Marvel is pulling out all the stops and there are Star Wars actors booked for signings all over the world to promote this new book, but crazy variant editions are what hurt the comics industry back in the 90s and this has hurt my excitement for the new series (as much as I love the J. Scott Campbell cover art). Now enter Loot Crate - It looks like Loot Crate has an exclusive Star Wars #1 cover that they are including for their monthly customers in Januarys Star Wars themed box. They havent confirmed this to my knowledge as they like to keep it a surprise as to what you get, but I can basically sit back and do nothing and Ive already paid for my Star Wars #1 via Loot Crate. I hope the book does well, and maybe as a marketer I shouldnt be hating on this massive PR stunt to promote the return of Star Wars to Marvel, but theres just something about it that rubs me the wrong way. Am I alone in this?
