Today is Pumbaas Gotcha Day .I have had him for 8 years. You can see from this video that he is not a normal dog. This is how I got him. I went to a local rescue group to look for a fluffy dog for one of my clients .I saw him in a cage with a female, there was a couple there looking for a good dog for the little boy and I told them that this would be an excellent dog for their child. We took him out of the cage and I immediately knew that there was something really really wrong. There was no hope in his eyes they was just completely dead. I told the people this is not the dog they needed. I knew if I did not take him this dog had no hope of anybody coming in and wanted a dog that was completely non responsive. I figured I would taking to my house and get him to where he was a normal dog and find him a home. I went to the front and talk to the people there and said I wanted to adopt him and they said the only way I could adopt him is if I would take the female. I could not take this female because at the time I had only had Twister for 2 years and she was still very dog aggressive expescially female dogs aggressive. You could look into Pumbas eyes and realize there was no hope. I talk to the people at the front desk I talked to the director I talked assistant director I begged them for this dog for over two and a half months. Any time that I had days off of people or clients picking it up late I would go over there and pet him there was no acknowledgement that I was even there. I told them that I can have 7 vets tell them that I was an excellent home they did not care. Then they started to tell me that the female dog with him would attack him whenever they fed or whenever they would walk by sometimes. I knew I had to get him out of there. One of the girls at the front desk told me youll get him when pigs fly. My friends were telling me that they would buy me a puppy if I wanted a Staffordshire Bull Terrier but I didnt any Staffordshire Bull I had to get him out of there. One Saturday I was coming home and normally I do not answer the phone if I did not recognize the phone number and the phone rang and it was the rescue group and asked me if I still wanted him . I threw my dogs in the house went to the bank and got cash and drove up there and got him. I took him to work and gave him a bath. I learned that I was very allergic to his coat. I brought him home and he growled at everyone of my dogs but he would not move. I ended up carrying him everywhere he would not eat also. I tried everything I knew ended up getting hamburger and having to physically put it in his mouth and hold his mouth shut till he swallowed. He went four days without eating before I started that. When I took him to work I I set him down on the floor and went to the back and groomed 2 standard poodles. I wondered where he was cuz I would have figured he would have came to see what I was doing and I walk back to the front and he was still in the same position head down nearly touching the ground and tail down like a dead piece of meat. I realize this dog would never be adoptable. I soon realized he would eat if me and the dogs with sit out in the car so he could not hear us . Slowly we made progress I started rolling treats across the floor and he would go get the treats slowly I got him where he would run. The first cue I talked to him was down. I set there and cried like a baby. He finally understood his actions could dictate what was happening in his life. He has taught me so much. He is super phobic. But I wouldnt trade him for anything in the world. I had worked with several aggressive dogs but I had never worked with any dogs that were very very fearful. As soon realize that fear and aggressiveness is the same emotion but expressed differently. One of my clients has the female dog that attacked him so after 5 years she brought him to the shop and I wanted to see if they would even acknowledge each other. He walked up to her and touched her in the loin 3 times turned his back on her and walked over to the bed with his back to her and lay down facing the wall she was there for over 45 minutes and no interest in her whatsoever. Pumba is registered with the AKC as When Pigs Fly.
