Today is Sweetest Day. While many are posting about their spouse or significant other, I am choosing to write about my son today. I know he knows that I love him, but I doubt if he just how much. I chose to become a parent, and I chose him to become my child. I love him with all there is in me and will continue to do so, unconditionally, until my final breath. The bond of adoption is an awesome thing that has its own form of gestation and birth. The adopted child begins just as every other child....out of the love between two people who desire to share that love and become a family. However, the adopted child is a dream that comes true not by growing for nine months nestled beneath their mothers heartbeat but by growing within the heart of both parents, and often for years rather than months. I remember the first time I laid eyes on MY child. It wasnt as he was gently placed into my outstreched arms, but rather as his photograph was placed before me...but my heart melted as I looked at the image of his upturned face smiling back at me....and I knew my life would never be the same. Ironically, it was a brisk October day much like today that the dream child of my heart became flesh and blood. Not flesh of my flesh, but no less my own...simply arriving when Gods timing was intended to be. So, Happy Sweetest Day child of mine. I love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck...always and forever.
