Today is Thursday, 18th September 2014. It has been a long time coming but today, at long last, Scots have something they have owned in name but never in practice - we have our sovereignty back. We can decide our destiny, which is either to keep that sovereignty where it legally belongs, with the people of Scotland, or we can choose to give it lock, stock and barrel to Westminster, where it has been so sadly abused over the last 307 years. Remember that the UK is not a country, it is a political construct, a union of countries, and the decision for Scotland to enter that union was taken by just 32 men, without consulting the people of Scotland. Today we have a luxury our forefathers did not have - a vote. Over 4 million people will today decide our fate together, and this will be our only chance to do it. A No vote will ensure that the other country in this union will continue to dominate, to trample over our sovereign rights, and to run this union for the benefit of the larger partner. A Yes vote will ensure that, for the first time in over 300 years, we run our country for ourselves, putting Scotlands needs first. I believe there is no justifiable reason for any country on this planet to be governed by another, and I will vote to retain our sovereignty. Never again should the politics of another country dictate what happens to ours. The poor, the disabled, the hungry, the disenfranchised, those with a shorter lifespan than war-torn Kabul FFS, deserve so much better in this oil-rich land of ours. We can make it work better, for us, for our children, for all of our people. Scotland can succeed, but only if Scots, who understand the country, are leading the way forward.
