Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. To help this hit home with you, Ill share my own life encounters. My moms mom passed of suicide when my mom was just sixteen. Mom, you know I cant even imagine... I love you, and am so lucky to have you! Also, last year I lost one of my dearest friends (suspicion of suicide). 1. I think its wrong to use the phrase committed when referring to the act of taking ones own life. It is a VERY sad deal that that someone felt so alone, and so far gone that ending this life seemed their only option. 2. Im sharing this article on Suicide Myths vs Facts because we ALL go through rough times, but those times mixed with severe depression, anxiety, bipolarity, schizophrenia, PTSD, and or the many other conditions humans are either born with or acquire (not by election), can many times make this decision seem the most feasible. 3. Not everyone can be a social worker. (Thank you to those who are, though!) Read this article. Be aware. Sometimes someone is reaching out in a subtle way (although to them it seems a HUGE deal to mention Anything).. 4. Be kind and patient with others. Be understanding, be an EAR, be a Shoulder..be a text message or phone call at the right time. 5. And most importantly: BE THERE. (Actively participate in your relationships with colleagues, friends, family, and even strangers). To this day in my 23 years, I have found this to be our number one life purpose. suicide.org/suicide-myths.html
