Today is a celebratory day for me because the life-saving insurance that I was able to purchase with a subsidy under the Affordable Care Act went into affect last night at midnight, meaning that for the first time in years that I have full medical coverage. As a person living with HIV/AIDS, I no longer have to worry about visiting the doctor and walking away with a medical bill that will bankrupt me financially, and I also have the peace of mind that comes along with knowing that if I have an unforeseen medical emergency that I will be taken care of with the best medical care available. Thank you to President Obama and all of the activists, medical professionals and lawmakers that made the Affordable Care Act possible for all of us here on the ground.
