Today is a day of remembrance. “Never forget” is the slogan. But what exactly are we not to forget? Do not forget about the lives lost that day, civilians and first responders. Do not forget that our government, through fear based rhetoric, led this country into wars with several nations who had nothing to do with the attacks. Do not forget that 12 years later, our country is no safer than it was that day regardless of our ill conceived “war on terror”. Do not forget the erosion of the liberties promised to us by the Constitution at the hands of our own elected officials in the name of safety. Do not forget that our government is currently trying to embroil us in yet another conflict, this time in Syria. Do not forget that if we attack Syria, we would be assisting Al-Qaeda, who were mainly responsible for the attacks on our soil 12 years ago. Do not forget that even a limited attack would still have collateral damage, killing innocent men, woman and children. That’s all I’m going to say on the subject today.
