Today is a great day! No school! Husband is working today from home! Everyone is home today relaxing and enjoying their day home. This is almost better than a Saturday around here!! Love it! I also got my first letter from Elder Spencer James Goodmansen II last night. He is doing good. He is in a very Jungle like area very rural but he is loving it and having a great time. Its a good thing he has been living up to scout camp every year to help prepare him to live in such humble conditions! here is his first letter!!! , Sorry it;s been a while since ive written. Weve been very busy, and this is the first p-day ive had in a long while. My first Area is great!!! Im loving it here!!! It was a little hard at first because I had no idea what they were saying ( I still have trouble understanding what they are saying). When I left for the Philippines, I had a cold, and the flight over caused all the mucus to go to my ears, and I wasnt able to hear for a long time. I still have trouble hearing, but my hearing is almost back to normal. My companion is amazing. His name is Elder Eyo. He is from Manila in the Philippines. My area is called Colonia Divinia. I took a few pictures, I will try to send them. Its a very rural very mountainous region in the middle of the jungle. Its probably the most jungle/rural physically demanding area in the entire mission. But the work here is moving incredibly fast. We have probably one of the most productive areas in the mission. We are teaching around 50-60 lessons per week. most of our lessons our lessons with a member present. We didnt have any bapisms last saturday because both me and Elder Eyo are new to the area (he has only been in Colonia for 3 days longer than me). We will have 5 baptisms this sunday and 10-11 the following week. We are aiming for 30 baptisms in the month of December for just our area (just me and Elder Eyo). Its very muddy in Colonia, and in order to get to some of our investigators and members houses we have to wade through rivers. The mud here is very clay like, and sticks to everything. Its very beautiful here. Our area is just a branch, but they are applying for a district. We dont have a chapel, but we have a meeting house that used to be the old missionary apartment here. Our biggest struggle here is that we lack priesthood holders. We have a lot of woman and children, but not a lot of priesthood holders. The members here are great. One of my favorite members is named Jaylo. He is 9 years old and he is one of the branch presidents nephews. He is so amazing. He is just this little 3 ft nothing Filipino 9 year old boy, and he hikes with us clear from one end of our area to the other, helping us find people to teach, and he also acts as a member present. He even wades through the mud and rivers with us. Its amazing to see how poor the people here are. All the houses here are these little bamboo huts (I think they are called Nipa huts). The families have like 7-9 kids, and they live in a little bamboo hut about the size of a single small room, and it barely has any walls, or roof (some houses dont have walls, its just a frame). I cant wait to do baptisms this Sunday. Since we dont have a chapel or a baptismal font, and the closest one to us many hours away, we will get to do baptisms in the river. I am so excited for that!!!! Ill be sure to take lots of picture. I have no idea when I will be able to write again. We have to plan our p-days so that they line up with our schedules. The nearest place to use the internet is many miles away, and we have to wake up at 3 AM to travel by Jeepney, Tricyle, Habal-Habal, Boat, and Bus to get to a place to use the internet. We spend well over half of our p-day just traveling. I would love to get more letters. I think that actuall letters would be very nice, I could actually read them in Colonia, and I have more time to respond to them that way. The easiest and Cheapest way to send me letters (other than email) would be to do pouch mail through Salt Lake. I dont have any idea how that works. I think its free if you do it that way. Halong, Elder Goodmansen
