Today is a very important day.....my mothers birthday! She turns 66 years old! Praise God! Let me tell you a little about this fantastic woman of God. She had me at the young age of 20 while still single. She got on welfare to support my brother and I while working at a factory job. Realizing that the factory was not her forte she decided to go back to school. She graduated from Taylor Business Institute with a certificate in Secretarial practice. She went on to take the test for CMS for the State of Illinois to get a position working on the Unemployment office on 16th and Blue Island. My mother was determined for you see she had two children she was trying to show how to get what you want out of life through hard work and determination. She placed my brother and I in a nursery school that we walked to every day not matter the weather and she walked to work. Once she got the job downtown we no longer qualified for free day care. So she would walk 8 blocks to take my brother and I over to my grand parents house and she would catch the 60 Blue Island bus down town to work. She instilled in both her children that education is the key to success. She made sure that we had a roof over our head, food to heat and clothes to wear. No matter what I cannot recall a time we did not have what we needed. We might not have gotten it right then but she made a way...Today she is retired living in a condo (she bought) and her children...well...Pastor Patrice Jones is a teacher, homeowner, business owner, pursuing her Masters Degree (one class left yall) . Dr. Gregory Jones is the principal of Kenwood Academy, owns 2 condos, and a consulting company that allowed him to restore the great Westinghouse High School to its splendor, spoke on the Congressional floor on education, worked with Arnie Duncan with a budget of 53 million....and.. and.. and her legacy is not done. Her grandchildren has their stories to begin too all because of the love and sacrifice of One....today I salute my mother, my best friend, my confidante and next to my Jesus, my 65 (the unforeseen husband) she is my all and all..Annie Jones. Wish her a happy Birth-Day today. I love you Ma!
