Today is celebration day! Sylvan lake has been crowned Kraft Hockeyville and NHL players are unloading into our communitys arena! After 9 months of countless, invaluable volunteer hours & an unprecedented regional cooperation, the day has finally arrived. I hope you can join in the celebrations today! The outdoor viewing party begins as early as 3pm in the Railway Park Promenade, with the puck dropping at 5pm inside our very own arena. There will be live music with St. James Gate, food, local charities and of course, friends! Come and celebrate! Sylvan Lake has been recognized as Hockeyville because of our community spirit, and I hope that resonates with us today. Well over 500 communities from across Canada were in the running for Hockeyville 2014 and in the end, Sylvan Lake was recognized and deemed the winner. So as the puck drops, as NHL teams play in our arena, as we enjoy the sport we are known for, remember that we did this together. Remember that volunteers were the background of this journey, remember that our neighbours have provided amazing support of our journey, and that after all the decorations come down we are left with exactly what got us here: an incredible community that pulls together when it counts. Congratulations Sylvan Lakers! We are Hockeyville and we are in this together! GO LAKERS GO!
