Today is my last day at work. I started working at week-ends in 1967 as a cook/waitress in a transport café (roadhouse) – my parents were horrified! When I had finished my studies 2 years later I became a secretary/PA, then a private detective (interesting!), a government clerical officer (eye-opener) and so on. After a longish break as a mum (including converting a stone barn), I continued as a secretary/PA in various industries (manufacturing, resources, fisheries/pearling, medical, secondary and tertiary education, small businesses) before taking up serious study whilst working when I was 49, gaining a BSc three years later, which enabled me to change careers. I went on to be a safety adviser, trainer, lecturer, and finally a respected safety consultant. I have finished up this year as a contented, low stressed member of the administration team in the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science at Curtin University! So having worked in numerous industries, I can probably classify myself as a jack of all trades, master of possibly none – but I’d give it a go! Now I’m going to happily retire …….. whilst looking out for all the opportunities and adventures to come knocking as I know they will.
