Today is my wifes Laila Chaves Birthday. I met her back in 1999 and promised her lots of things to make her mine. She believed in me and we got married the next year. I did not keep a few of my promises but she still stayed with me! In 2003, when the roller coaster of life started to go what it seemed to be a forever downhill in our lives, she was wise and strong enough to say Sergio, we need God!. Those who knew me back then can probably picture what MY reaction was :-). Despite my not so friendly welcome to her idea, she insisted on it on a daily basis till I told her OK, lets look for a church. From that day on, we never looked back. I cannot, ever, thank her enough for not letting me win on that argument. Today, 13 years after we got married and after many ups and downs in our life together, she continues to work hard, to take care of our health, to be my friend and confidant, to be a great mom, step-mom, and grandma for our kids and granddaughter, and to introduce new angles in our conversations that makes the light bulb pop up on top of my head when I thought I was right all along :-). Today is her birthday but I feel like I got the best present. Happy Birthday Laila!!
