Today is the 166th anniversary of the treaty whereby the US seized Mexicos northern half, about a million square miles (Miwok and Ohlone territory). This treaty guaranteed the Mexican citizens whose homes were annexed some rights, few of which were ever realized. The map here is a startling one, where you see a different North America, one in which the US had no west coast, Mexico couldve been a great power in the world, and much of that northern Mexico was still in the unviolated possession of its original inhabitants.
