Today is the 1st birthday of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute #SAHMRI on North Terrace. I am looking forward to celebrating with their hard working staff this evening and will also have the honour of cutting their birthday cake. SAHMRI has quickly become a local, national and international icon. This bold, unique building changed our city landscape, became a beacon for Adelaides bright future and heralded the creation of a health and medical research precinct, which will dramatically alter the social, cultural and economic fabric of the north-west corner of the CBD in an exciting way. Most important though, is the amazing work undertaken inside the cheese grater. SAHMRIs research is focussed on the key health challenges for our community, such as heart health, nutrition, immunity, cancer, the mind & brain, as well as the health of our Aboriginal communities and that of mothers, babies and children. I have no doubt that the work undertaken by these teams will improve our quality of life in the future and Im excited to help them celebrate their first year of achievements.
