Today is the annual Miss America pageant, an event not to be missed at my house. Friends who live in all parts of the country will call me during the show to bash one contestant or another, especially during what is called talent these days. My friend Kathy Magargee reminded me of the fun Miss America parties I used to have every year. Everyone (man or woman) had to come as their favorite "Miss." (Mistaken, Mysterious, Misaligned, Mister Ed, Missed Period...creativity was the name of the game.) Costumes, crowns and sashes were encouraged and extra points were given for the best "talent." One year I was a roller skating brain surgeon..."so I could serve the world from head to toe." I served fried chicken and apple pie. Ah, those were the days.
