Today is the death anniversary of Yiannis Negreponte, the songwriter of one of the most characteristic antifascist Resistance poems, made into a heartfelt, beautiful song with the music of Manos Loizos, one of my favourite composers. The song name is The Accordeon and its a BIG source of inspiration for Without Moonlight. Im translating the lyrics below for your pleasure. The Accordeon In my old neighbourhood I had a friend, Who knew how to play the accordeon. When he sang, he was the just like the sun, And the accordeon created sparks in his hands. But during a dark dark night, like all the others, He was the lookout, keeping watch while playing the accordeon. Nazi trucks pulled up against the fence, And machine gun fire stopped the accordeon. The unfinished song has stayed with me, Every time I hear an accordeon play. And its marked my soul like a fire stamp: Fascism Shall Never Pass! https://youtube/watch?v=LQMsT4lNG2g
