Today is the seventh day of Christmas. And, its the last day of 2014! One year is ending and another year is beginning....tomorrow will be the first day of a brand new year and everything will be different. Well, maybe not everything....we wish everything would be different in the blink of an eye, the turning of the hands of a clock.....we wish those 20 pounds would melt away overnight, we wish our relationships would change overnight from a difficult struggle to perfect.... AND be just the way I want it! We wish we could have the perfect job by tomorrow, we wish we could make ends meet just once by tomorrow, and we wish the weather outside would change from whatever it is right now. My weather right now is like living in an over-sized snow globe....its beautiful and worthy of professional photography but its cold and absolutely frightful. But, I remember longing for these cold, snowy days on a hot, muggy day last July. I looked back on these days fondly back in July....having already forgotten just how cold below zero really feels after a few minutes. I wonder if were ever satisfied with the weather we have today....too hot, too cold, too humid, too dry, too rainy, too cloudy, too sunny...... it hurts my eyes!! Have we ever had just the perfect day? Have we really noticed the ONE day that WAS perfect and enjoyed that day from beginning to end? Last week, my 5 year old grandson was here and theres no snow where he lives. He couldnt wait to get to grammas house to play in the snow. And the snow didnt disappoint! Wed had around 5-6 inches of new snow overnight and he saw it after waking up in the morning. He couldnt wait to put on his boots and jacket.....and out the door he went. There was some snow on the sidewalk and some huge snowbanks under the eaves of the house. Where do you think he headed first....the sidewalk or the snowbanks? You guessed it....he headed right into the snowbanks and sunk down deep. He was in heaven. Then we got out his little plastic shovel to help shovel the sidewalk.....he worked and worked and really did a good job. He paused, leaned on his shovel and said this is the perfect thing to do today....this is the best Christmas ever!!!! We hadnt opened any gifts, we hadnt had any big meal or fancy treats, but for him, THIS was the best Christmas ever! Shoveling snow on a mild winter morning and enjoying every single second of the day. Tomorrow wont be any different than today accept the number of the year will change. Today is good enough and all is well, enjoy your New Years Eve.....tomorrow will be good enough, not perfect, but good enough to find joy and peace. May it be so.
