Today it is almost impossible for an employer in a factory to have - TopicsExpress

Today it is almost impossible for an employer in a factory to have contact with the workers and to care about them personally, though in terms of money he has a clearly defined relationship. For the shareholders in a corporation, this is even less likely. The mutual relationship between the investors and those who do the work has been eliminated by the shareholders, the company, the board of directors, and the management, all pushed between investor and worker. No one is personally responsible for what happens to the worker. The shareholder can defer to the board of directors, and the board of directors can defer to the investors. There is no way for the working masses to establish a relationship with their employers. It has been displaced by the inaccessible stock company and its drive for efficiency. This is why the soul has been trampled on in modern industry and business, where money, accounts, and payroll statistics are first priorities. The worker counts only as a payroll number, a profit statistic. Everything personal, everything that creates fellowship, has been eliminated from the process of production. This is characteristic of the machine and the system it creates. The soul is not admitted into the factory. It is handed over at the time clock. In return the worker receives a number from the time clock and has to function as part of the huge machine, where instruments enforce the production schedule.
