Today marks the end (last day) of the 45th anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair…billed as An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music! Woodstock was one event that many wish could happen over and over! 32 acts performing before half a million people in sun and rain. The event resulted in two fatalities, one from overdose, and another when a tractor ran over a punter sleeping in a hayfield. Also there were two births and four miscarriages! And of course many muddled minds!!! Originally released in 1970 as a triple-LP and closely followed by the movie there was also Woodstock Two a double LP. The five LPs include many of the now legendary performances of many of the artists including Richie Havens’ great opening to the festival with Freedom (superb), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young performing Sea Of Madness & Suite:Judy Blue Eyes (never equalled), Santanas Soul Sacrifice (a trademark), Sly & The Family Stones medley Dance To The Music/Music Lover/I Want To Take You Higher and Jimi Hendrixs show closing performance that created a aura about him and Woodstock that is as strong now as it was then!! There were just so many great artists who excelled at Woodstock. ALL lovers of rock music must own the triple set or at least see the movie! On the LP’s, also included are the legendary stage announcements and dialogue of the farmer Max Yasgur, a warning about brown acid, traffic by Arlo Guthrie (New York State Thruway is closed man, yeah, lotta freaks!). With a little searching into the catalogue of the artists who performed you can find their whole set lists as is the case with Jimi’s “:Woodstock ”. A couple of very special performances not on the LPs or movie are those by Johnny Winter & The Band. That said the standard release is a great soundtrack to a great movie of an even greater event of music history. PERFECT! https://youtube/watch?v=XndnqIlHG3k
