Today, my old dog Jack stumbled and face planted while he was patrolling the front yard. He was back up in a heartbeat without missing a step. He doesnt know I saw it all as I was watching from far away through the upstairs window. My tiny heart broke a bit in a big way. He never stumbles and falls. He never used to stumble and fall. Later on, as I was cooking in the kitchen he was not annoyingly underfoot as he usually is, and when I went to find him, hed tucked himself into my pillows, blankets and my scarf with his dirty little paws. As a side note, I noticed a cactus thorn, about 2 inches long poking straight through his tail. So I pulled it out and he just barely woke up when I did so. Tough, old, most beautiful dog in my world, sleeping sweetly at the moment. Jack the Old Dog Story, 2015.
