Today one of my employees came into work. She had been sobbing all morning. This is a young girl who is a hard worker and has been saving everything she gets for a once in a lifetime opportunity to study abroad. Well she had signed up on a website that links people looking to make extra money with those advertising jobs. Being young she was not ready for what happened next. A man contacted her asking her to take care of his dog while he was out of the country. Was gonna pay for the care and cost associated with it. He explained that his dog was in a shelter somewhere and that his friend (who couldnt take care of him) was gonna pick up the dog and transport him to Florida. So this guy sent her a check for $1200. Can you guess what happened? Yep instructed her to cash the check keep $200 for herself and send the rest to his friend. Yep red flags should have went up but again she is very young and trusting. Well today she got a call from her bank stating that the check didnt clear and her account was now at 0. To top it off her account was linked to her parents savings account to avoid any overdraft charges so they are out as well. Chase bank was very rude to her and actually told her to forget about getting her money back and that they may not want her business any longer because she was involved in a fraud. Sometimes I hate people. Those who prey on the young and old or anyone to scam them out of their hard earned money. This girl is devastated. My heart breaks for her.
